Welcome

Ramblers Blog Driving from Hudson, OH to Anchorage, AK. (May 28 to June 6, 2022)

Trip Preparations:

We have driven to Anchorage three times in the past, (1984, 2011, 2013), traveling by RV. This is the first time we are just driving in our SUV and staying at hotels along the way,. A new experience.

Why this destination and why now?
We used to live in Anchorage, and now our daughter Brenna, Son-in-law Zach and grandchildren, Dean and Quinn, live there.
We are both retired and in good health, so what better time to experience this new adventure.

A word about this blog. It has been our goal in recent years’ lengthier travels to record for posterity a diary of travel stats, pictures, and personal reflections. So, when we can no longer indulge in long distance trips we may relive fond memories. We invite you to ride along through these personal writings risking exposure to our bad puns, and spelling errors.

* We may not have daily access to Internet so updates may be delayed, but once they appear they will be in sequence.
*Blog will include a collage of travel pictures.
*Daily mileage map links found on Homepage left column.

Star Date: 09/30/22

Awoke to sunshine, on the rood early.  Only into the 70’s today.  We are traveling I-29 to I-80 east.  Today, we are passing through three states, South Dakota, Iowa and Illinois. We cross the Missouri River at the South Dakota and Iowa border one more time and finally say good-by as we travel east and it winds its way to the Mississippi River.  We see multiple Wind Mill farms through Iowa. The traffic gets heavy as we move east toward Chicago along I-80.  The terrain changes to looking more like Ohio with rolling hills and lots of farms including barns.   Cross the Mississippi River at the border of Iowa and Illinois.  We have one more time change tomorrow, bringing us back to Eastern Standard Time at home.  At least 13 degrees cooler today but sun is still hot and not much fall color change yet.  Staying at a Fairfield Inn in Peru, Ill.  Ate dinner at Red Lobster, haven’t been in one in many years.  Cheddar biscuits are still the best.

Long day of driving tomorrow but we will be in our own beds tomorrow night.

Looking forward to catching up with everyone.

Nightly night.
